Library Presents Hitchcock Film Series

The Friends of Moon Lake Library are sponsoring a mini film festival on Thursday nights this month, featuring director Alfred Hitchcock, a master of horror and suspense. We will show three films: “The Birds,” “Hitchcock,” a biopic about the director himself, and “Psycho.” Join us, if you dare! We’ll have popcorn and other movie treats, and we’ll discuss the films after the showings.

“The Birds” (1963, rated PG-13) October 10, 6 p.m.

The film stars Tippi Hedren in an unforgettable story of our feathered friends suddenly transformed into weirdly aggressive, even murderous furies.

“Hitchcock” (2012, rated PG-13) October 17, 6 p.m.

Anthony Hopkins plays the legendary director as he tries to get support for a new film starring Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins. When no one will back him, he decides to finance “Psycho” himself. Helen Mirren plays Alma Hitchcock, his wife.

“Psycho” (1960, rated R) October 31, 6 p.m.

The film series culminates on Halloween with this film, known as one of the scariest and most suspenseful ever made due not just to superb performances by Leigh and Perkins, but also to Hitchcock’s creative camera work that suggests far more horror than is actually shown. Janet Leigh claimed she never took another shower in her life after filming the infamous shower scene.
