Emily Clark Smith

Emily Clark Smith, 73, of Mobile, Alabama, died tragically on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

Mrs. Smith was born on October 1, 1950, in Jackson, MS. She is survived by her husband, Tim Smith of Mobile; her children, Jason Smith of Mobile, Stephen Smith of Asheville, NC, and Em Smith Headley of Athens, GA; and her nine grandchildren: Emily Smith (15), Wes Smith (14), Charlie Smith (12), Lyle Smith (11), and Mary Blythe Smith (9) of Mobile; Pearl Smith (13) and Abbott Smith (11) of Asheville, NC; and Sylvia Headley (6) and Coltrane Headley (5) of Athens, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Clark and Emily Russell Clark of Jackson, MS.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Emy’s life was centered around her family, faith, and many interests. She was known for her quick wit, acceptance, and commitment to supporting others. Her spirit and love is felt deeply by her family, and she will be deeply missed.

While Emy primarily dedicated herself to supporting her husband and children, she pursued various interests and talents. She was an active participant of Bible Study Fellowship, attended Covenant Presbyterian, and regularly connected with her prayer group. Her faith was unwavering.

Emy was the former editor of Mentone’s Groundhog newspaper and a talented journalist for other outlets including the Jackson Clarion Ledger and Destin Log. She was also an avid learner and naturalist with a keen eye for birding, snakes, and animals. Emy had interests in Greek, Italian, knitting, and history as well.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations be sent to the Women’s Resource Center, 718 Downtowner Loop W, Mobile, AL 36609, or to any Christian organization of your choice.

    I remember being in girl scouts with Em. Ms. Emily was a nice lady to host us girls.
