May’s Gulf 7th Songwriter Series Welcomes Russell Gulley

Get ready for an afternoon of music and storytelling with Russell Gulley and Microwave Dave at Little River Canyon Center on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Concert goers are also invited after the show to celebrate Gulley’s 77th birthday.

Russell Gulley

Gulley, a Fort Payne native, grew up on Southern gospel and shape note music and set his sights on playing rock ’n’ roll. With strong ties to the Muscles Shoals musical heritage, he has written and played a rich variety of genres. He has toured with many successful artists; founded the group Jackson Highway (named for the location of Muscle Shoals Studio); and recently received the 2024 Alabama Arts Impact Award for the multitude of arts initiatives he’s either founded or taken part in: the Big Wills Arts Council; Boom Days Heritage Celebration; the Rural Touring Artists Program; and Radiovision, to name a few.

Microwave Dave (Dave Gallaher), of Microwave Dave and the Nukes fame, has performed with several well-known groups, including the band Cameron, with whom he recorded and toured nationally. Later he formed the Nukes and began producing and performing on his radio show, “Talkin’ the Blues,” which recently marked its 35th year on Huntsville radio.

Tickets to the show are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the performance.
