Valley Head Graduates Earn Small Business Recognition
C&H Discount Drugs has been named the 2025 Small Business of the Year by the Fort Payne Chamber of Commerce. Co-owners Richard Hammon and John Carr are both graduates of Valley Head High School.
After completing their education at the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University, Richard and John decided to return to Fort Payne to be closer to their families. Richard was a partner at a local drug store, and John worked relief. The opportunity arose for the two longtime friends to partner and open their own pharmacy. In 1990, C&H Discount Drugs opened its doors, with the North Fort Payne location launching on July 1 and the South Fort Payne location following two weeks later. Today, C&H stands as a trusted, locally owned and operated pharmacy, providing essential healthcare services to the community.
The Small Business of the Year award is a nominated honor, voted on by the community. It recognizes a local business that demonstrates outstanding service, dedication, and a strong commitment to the area it serves. C&H Discount Drugs’ selection by the community is a testament to their appreciation of its unwavering commitment to the Fort Payne area.
C&H Discount Drugs is dedicated to meeting the needs of its customers, offering extended hours and remaining open seven days a week to ensure families have access to the medication and care they need, especially in times of urgency. Beyond pharmacy services, C&H is a proud supporter of several local organizations, including the DeKalb County Children’s Advocacy Center, the Fort Payne Police Department, the “We’ve Got Your Back” program, Harrison School of Pharmacy, and numerous local sports teams.
