Free Tax Prep Available in DeKalb County
Adults of all ages will have access to free tax preparation for simple tax returns. The IRS-sponsored service is made possible in part by the DeKalb County Council on Aging.
Appointments are required and can be scheduled by calling 256-845-8590 (walk-ins will not be accepted). Only those who will sign a return may attend, unless a participant requires a driver. The service will be offered at the Council on Aging office at 600 Tyler Ave. SE, in Fort Payne.
Tax preparation will take place on the following Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m.:
- January 30
- February 6, 13, 20, and 27
- March 6, 13, 20, and 27
- April 3 and 10
Participants should bring the following documents:
- Photo ID for yourself and your spouse
- Social Security cards for everyone being claimed
- Last year’s tax return
- All W-2s, 1099s, and any other tax documents
Masks will be available upon request.
