New Beginnings, Blessings, and a Busy Start

This is my first month to greet you as executive director of MERF, and I couldn’t be more excited. My upbringing in Mentone blessed me in ways I carried with me through years of living away, and I am honored to have the opportunity to give back to the community that invested so much in me.
I’d like to thank the MERF board of directors for placing their trust in me. MERF does a tremendous work in Mentone and Valley Head, work that impacts people of all ages. Our support of students at Valley Head School, particularly with arts education, will shape the adults they become. This is the heart of MERF’s mission.
On behalf of the board and all who interact with MERF, I want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Alyce Kenney for her service as executive director. She has a true servant’s heart, and has been so helpful to me as I’ve moved into this role.
This is a busy time for MERF! We have moved our operations from the MERF House for the renovation to begin. I have a temporary office set up in town, and we’ve had some trouble with forwarding our phone line, but we’re making the best of an inconvenient situation knowing that the end result will be wonderful for our community.
Our Senior Lunches continue to be popular, with good food, fun games and — best of all — warm fellowship.
Last month, we hosted Valley Head Art Night, where families enjoyed pizza from Mentone Market, a photo booth, face painting, and more. The art on display included various styles and mediums, and some were chosen for the upcoming Taste of the Mountain and Art Auction. Their work is a reflection of the art teacher, Caroline Moore, and her dedication to her students.
Speaking of the auction, don’t miss your chance to enjoy a delicious sampling of local culinary specialties, plus the opportunity to take home some gorgeous works from regional artists. Not only will you be surrounded by outstanding food and art, but you’ll enjoy an evening of fellowship with neighbors and friends while supporting MERF’s important mission. Tickets are selling fast, so get yours now. You can buy them in person at the Mentone Market, or online at merfhouse.org.
