Spookapalooza Returns to DeSoto State Park

Halloween meets the great outdoors when Spookapalooza Weekend returns to DeSoto State Park in Fort Payne, October 24–26, 2025. This free, family-friendly tradition blends fall festivities with the natural beauty of Lookout Mountain, offering something for all ages.

The fun begins with the Spooktacular Campsite Contest, where campers transform their sites into haunted wonderlands. Visitors can stroll through the campground and admire the creativity, from spooky skeletons to glowing jack-o-lanterns. Prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place, as well as “most creative.”

Another highlight is the Pumpkin Carving Contest, open to all ages. Carved creations must be dropped off at DeSoto’s Country Store by noon on Saturday, October 25, and winners will be announced later in the day.

Children (and the young at heart) will love Trick-or-Treating in the Campground, where candy stations are set up throughout the campground. Costumes are encouraged, and families should note that campground gates open to the public at 3:00 p.m., with no entry permitted before then or after 5:30 p.m. Trick-or-treating hours are 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., with sections of the campground closed to vehicle traffic to ensure safety for all.

Beyond contests and candy, Spookapalooza offers a full lineup of seasonal fun, from games to crafts and more. The event’s playful spirit makes it a fall favorite for local families and visitors alike.

Attendees should be mindful of the park’s natural resources: no glitter, confetti, or paint may be used in decorations, and nothing should be placed on trees, trails, or neighboring campsites. These guidelines ensure that the magic of Halloween leaves no trace behind, keeping DeSoto’s forests and trails pristine for all to enjoy.
