Junior Ranger Program Connects Kids with the Great Outdoors

Young explorers are invited to learn, play, and earn a badge through the Alabama State Parks’ Junior Ranger Program. Designed to be fun, educational, and hands-on, the program encourages kids to explore nature, learn about wildlife and conservation, and develop a deeper connection to the outdoors.

Locally, participants can pick up the new Junior Ranger book at the Country Store & Information Center, the Benefield Nature Center, or the DeSoto State Park Lodge lobby. The book includes a variety of activities that guide Junior Rangers through the park’s natural and cultural features.

Once the activities are complete, Junior Rangers can present their finished books to the Country Store staff or the Lodge front desk staff to receive their official Junior Ranger badge. The certificate inside the book will be signed, and participants get to keep their book as a keepsake of their experience.
