Students compete at state, national Beta Club

In Valley Head school news, the Junior Beta Club elementary students competed in five areas this year. The competition began at the state level in Montgomery and continued up to the national level in Savannah, Georgia.
Students Myles Battles, Hunter Battles, Braxtin Meadows, and Zoey Chambers attended the national competition in June, along with chaperones Jasmine Chambers, Karissa Meadows, and Jessica Battles.
Zoey Skye Chambers won 1st place in Fiber Arts for her beautiful planet rug. Braxtin Meadows placed 2nd in Accessorized Design for his backpack, scrunchie, hairbow, and clutch.
The students also came home with 9th place in 2D Art for their banner.
Hunter Battles was the only Valley Head student to compete at Nationals for Junior Beta in the category of Woodworking and Digital Art. Hunter placed 3rd in Digital Art and 4th in Woodworking at the state-level competition.
Myles Battles also placed at State for Digital Art, and Braxtin Meadows placed for his beautiful quill art. Several other Valley Head students competed at the state level but did not attend the national competition.
The town council approved the purchase of multiple heavy-duty trash receptacles at Valley Head Town Park. Installation is complete, and the hope is that these will keep animals from removing the lids and making a mess.
Also, Doggie Waste Stations have been installed at the park and in front of the town hall for the convenience of all dog walkers. Please utilize these, and let’s keep our park and streets clean!
Our inaugural 4th Saturday Hot Rods in the Valley took place Saturday, July 27, 2024. We hope to keep building this event with even more vendors and activities. Join us around the town square on the fourth Saturday of each month through and including the month of October. If you love classic cars, rock and roll, and a free family activity, you’ll become a regular.
Valley Head will host a Family Movie Night on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. The movie, “IF,” will begin at approximately 8 p.m. This is a FREE event, and popcorn and drinks will be provided. Bring your own blankets and/or lawn chairs to the field directly across from Town Hall.
Finally, at its July 1, 2024, meeting, the town council voted in two new board members for the Valley Head Water Board.
Congratulations to Sonny LaRock of Valley Head and Ben Windom of Hammondville. Thank you both for your willingness to serve our community.
The Valley Head Town Council meets the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The public is welcomed to attend.

Congratulations to members of Valley Head School’s Junior Beta Club, who competed in both the state and national competition and won several awards.
