American Legion Post 215 Elects Officers and Forms Auxiliary

Pizza and drinks kicked off our monthly meeting at the post. The new membership year began in July (there are 16,000 members in Alabama), and it was also time for new leadership to be sworn in. We held a silent election for commander, vice commander, adjutant, and financial officer. Officers were sworn in by District Commander C.J. Craft.
Sandra Plummer was the winner of our $250 Cabela’s gift certificate raffle. Of course she asked if the post could use anything with the certificate.
New Auxiliary Group Forms Vickie Thrower from the Alabama State American Legion Auxiliary briefed members on how to start an auxiliary, a separate organization from the post and made up of spouses of veterans. Since the discussion, we’ve had the minimum 10 senior members sign up to join the group, as well as four junior members.
Their goal is to be up and running this month. Stephanie Otto will serve as auxiliary president. To find out about meetings, dues, and planned activities, contact her at 256-516-2652 or email her at americanlegionunit215@gmail.com. If you want to have your signature on the charter, please contact her and be part of Mentone history!
One of the first events they are going to help with is the inaugural Mentone Annual Car Show this October, the week before the Mentone Fall Festival. Post 215 will host the show, located at the Moon Lake Village parking area. We’re working on the details, but we know we’ll have three trophies and plenty of fun!
