Get your Mahj ON!

Over five years ago, the call went out for anyone who wanted to play Mah-Jongg at the library in Mentone. We started with six folks who were new to the game, and have now grown to over 40 participants. Some live here full time, some part time, and some live a distance away but still make time to join us on Tuesdays and Fridays. We play from noon until 2 p.m. or after, depending on folks’ schedules. Anyone who needs to get their “Mahj fix” (IYKYK), please join us at one of our sessions. If you are just starting your journey or need a refresher course, contact Lynn Vanderhoff (404-783-6771) about lessons. She’ll get you started using National Mah-Jongg League rules.

In Mah-Jongg, you create patterns to match a card of 71 suggested hands. Those hands can be created in multiple ways. There are over 1,000 ways to win Mah-Jongg, based on this year’s card. It’s not the matching game that you see online. It’s a great strategy game that, with a little bit of luck, can become addictive. But win or lose, it’s great for your brain and a great way to socialize. Hope you’ll check it out at the library soon!
