Holiday Season Is Just Around the Corner

The holiday season is quickly approaching, and we hope you will join us for the numerous activities we have planned. Our annual Trunk or Treat will be Saturday, Oct. 24, in conjunction with Hot Rods in the Valley. It will begin at 4 p.m. and last until 6 p.m. If your church or civic organization would like to sign up to distribute candy, please call Lora at Town Hall, 256-635-6814. We will have costume contests for all age groups, so dress up and spend the evening with us.

Hot Rods in the Valley was started by our local business owner Raymond Beasley. He and his wife, Shannon, are the proud owners of Beasley Signs on Commerce Avenue. They have been in business here for over 11 years. Together with The New Tiger’s Inn, they sponsor Hot Rods In the Valley every 4th Saturday, beginning in May and running through October. This is the third year for the car show, and anywhere from 50 to 75 cars are driven over to participate each month. Car owners from all over the South come to show off their beautiful custom creations. If you love old cars, you need to walk around the square. The New Tiger’s Inn is always open each 4th Saturday for the show, with dinner specials running all evening. Also, everyone’s favorite shaved ice truck, Froggy Freeze, will be parked all evening serving up frozen treats.

That same evening, we will be showing the Disney favorite “Hocus Pocus” as part of our Free Family Movie Night. The movie will begin at dusk (approximately 6:30 p.m.), and there will be free popcorn, drinks for the kids, and water. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and stay and enjoy this Halloween classic.

Our town was recently awarded a grant from the Alabama’s Mountains, Rivers & Valleys RC&D Council in the amount of $14,828. These funds will be used to purchase four new sets of firefighter turnouts. Each set costs approximately $3,700 and must be replaced every 10 years to meet local and state guidelines. We are very thankful to our legislators for this opportunity to equip our volunteer firefighters with the best safety equipment available. Our application for the 2027 grant opportunity has been submitted to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to build a permanent pavilion on the field across from Town Hall.

It would be used to hold community events such as our Rails and Roots Festival concert artists, our Christmas festival and concert, and so many other wonderful free family events. Keep your fingers crossed that we get good news in 2027.

SAVE THE DATE: Our annual Christmas Festival and Parade will take place Sunday, Dec. 6, beginning at 3 p.m. We will have craft vendors, food trucks, free hot chocolate and cookies, free photos with Santa Claus, live Christmas music, a cake walk, and much more! The parade will begin at 5 p.m. with line-up at the school at 4:30 p.m. We anticipate a big crowd this year, so plan to come early and enjoy the evening with us. If your church or organization would like to secure a place in the parade, please call Town Hall at the number above.

Our next town council meeting is Monday, Oct. 5 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
