In Remembrance of Norm Baker: 1935-2026

Norman Allison Baker, longtime Mentone resident, passed away last May. Mr. Baker was born in 1935 in Providence, Rhode Island. He and his wife, Liz, have for years given their time as volunteers in various capacities. He attended East Providence High School, Southwest Missouri College (bachelor’s degree), University of Wisconsin-Platteville (master’s degree), and the University of Missouri (Ph.D). He spent many years in the field of education, and taught mostly graduate courses in industrial and technical education. Mr. Baker taught courses as a student and faculty member at Clemson University, Indiana University, and Georgia State University.

He enjoyed many hobbies, including but certainly not limited to sailing, fishing, woodcarving, photography, painting, and leather work. After retirement, he and Liz enjoyed working with the food ministry at St. Joseph’s on-the-Mountain Episcopal Church. Our community will forever be in gratitude for his service.
