Library Speaker to Focus on Green Burial Practices

At The Good Earth, the state’s first green burial ground, families have the opportunity to avoid many common (and expensive) burial options. The Good Earth offers no embalming, no vault, natural fabrics, only biodegradable vessels with no harmful paint or stains, and no artificial flowers and plants. Families may use a funeral home or not, as they choose. In fact, the funeral arrangements and burial are led by families, which is often a very personal and meaningful way to say goodbye.

The Good Earth can help decrease the high cost of funerals as well.

“By caring for your own, you can have better control over the cost of a funeral. You decide when to have the burial and how much you want to participate,” Champion explains.

It’s healthier for the environment too, when burials can take place in a meadow full of native plants that attract pollinators such as monarch butterflies.
