Mentone American Legion Auxiliary Upcoming Events

By Lisa Ridgley

Greetings! We have so many things coming up! First, we are very excited about our upcoming Miss Mentone Pageant on November 7. The deadline for registration is November 1. You can find all the information by scanning the QR code.

We are also having a yard sale on October 17. We’ll raffle two beautiful photo albums as well. The yard sale will be at our post, located at 195 Cove Road. Swing by and see us on your way home from the fall festival. All the proceeds from our sale and the raffle will be used for our Honoring Mentone Veterans fund. The next purchase with this fund will be wreaths and shepherd’s hooks that will be used annually at Christmas for all veterans buried in Mentone. The fund was set up two years ago to make sure there were flags placed on every veteran’s grave in Mentone for Memorial Day. If you have a veteran buried locally, feel free to reach out to make sure we have them on our list. You can reach our President/Genealogist Diana at 208-340-9816, or Secretary/Historian Lisa at 219-433-3609.

When I became a member of the auxiliary, our list of veterans was small. After two short years and hundreds of hours of research, the list that started with 80 has grown to close to 200. Some were not marked as veterans, but we have done our best to get everyone the honor they deserve. Also, if you know of a veteran in our community that is shut-in, please let us help. We are not only here to honor the ones we have lost. We are here to support the ones we still have with us!

We also have a cemetery cleanup day scheduled for October 24 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. We have a couple of groups of young adults coming out to lend a hand. If you are interested in joining us, feel free to reach out.
