MERF Auction Reaches Goal with Spirited Night of Art, Food, and Generosity

The 2026 Taste of the Mountain and Art Auction not only helped MERF meet its fundraising goal, but it did so in a way that left attendees lingering, laughing, and already anticipating next year’s gathering. The sold-out event at Camp Alpine for Boys resulted from the hands of many volunteers who put in their time to make the night well organized and the perfect venue to showcase the generously donated auction items.

The evening’s momentum owed much to auctioneer Ben Shurett, whose presence was equal parts entertaining and strategic. Shurett kept the room buzzing, weaving humor and timing into the bidding process so seamlessly that, at times, a few enthusiastic participants found themselves nearly bidding against themselves. The many tempting pieces and other items, such as destination packages, made it easy for everyone to pick out a favorite. A standout moment came with the sale of the top-selling piece of the evening, a painting of DeSoto Falls by Mentone artist Lydia Randolph, inspired by a foggy evening walk with her dog.

The array of food from local eateries drew rave reviews. And if the savory offerings set the stage, the desserts seemed to work a kind of magic of their own, sweetening the mood and perhaps the bids as well.

Proceeds raised by MERF will directly benefit local art education and other community-centered programs supported by the foundation, ensuring that the creativity celebrated that evening continues to thrive in our area for generations.
