Movie Night at the Library

Hank and Susan Van Apeldoorn Will Discuss Their Experiences as Part of the Film Crew

“Bobby Jones: Stroke of Genius”
Friday, May 30, at 6 p.m.

This month’s Friday Night at the Movies will be a very special one. As many of you know, Hank and Susan Van Apeldoorn of Mentone spent many years working in the film industry, based in Georgia. They have plenty of stories to tell about working with stars such as Clint Eastwood, Scarlett Johansen, and Matthew McConaughey. We’re thrilled to have finally convinced Hank and Susan to share what it is like to work on a movie set, doing the hard work backstage that helps make the magic happen onscreen.

Golf fans and moviegoers alike will enjoy this month’s film, about one of golf’s legendary players. Bobby Jones, who played as an amateur for his entire golfing career, won the Grand Slam in 1930, with victories in all four major tournaments of that period. He went on to found the beautiful Augusta National Golf Club and helped design the course where the tournament he co-founded, The Masters, is played each April.

The movie, made in 2004 and rated PG, stars Jim Caviezel, Claire Frolani, Malcolm McDowell, and Jeremy Northam. Both Van Apeldoorns were part of the crew.

Hank and Susan will attend the screening, introduce the film, and after it’s over, talk about the making of the movie and their experiences on set. We hope to have them back in the future to share their experiences in the industry. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear about the movie from people who helped make it possible.
