NACC Fall Classes at Moon Lake Offer Something for Everyone

August 28: An Introduction to Beekeeping Class

Taught by Stephen (Steve) Miller, this three-hour introductory course will explain the basics of beekeeping. Participants will get an overview of materials needed, the social structure and hierarchy of a colony, and more. The class will meet from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and is free.

September 1 – December 15: Vocal Ensemble Series

Led by Kathy Forester Adkins, participants will learn new songs and vocal techniques. The class will meet on Tuesdays from 10-11:15 a.m., excluding the week of Thanksgiving. The cost for the series is $25.

September 11: Sourdough Class

Taught by Taylor Young, this class will teach the art and science of artisan bread making. Topics include creating and maintaining a wild yeast starter, baking, and more. Each participant will leave with the starter that he/she makes during the class. This class will meet from 9-11 a.m. and will cost $25.

September 17: Stay Connected. Stay Safe. A Guide to Social Media

Class taught by Judith Lea, NACC director of Student/Faculty Technology, this class will discuss how to identify digital threats, handle sensitive information securely, and prevent cyber attacks like phishing, ransomware, and social engineering. This class will meet from 9-11 a.m. and is free.

September 25: No-Sew Fleece Throw Class

Led by Lacinda Woodall, this hands-on class will teach participants how to create a no-sew fleece throw, and each participant will create a throw to take home. The class will meet from 9-11 a.m. The cost is $25.

October 2-16: Mahjong for Beginners Series

What started as a traditional tile game is now the game everyone wants to learn, popping up everywhere from girls’ nights to game clubs. Now you can learn it too! Rachael Graham will guide you through the basics, from understanding the tiles to learning the flow of the game so you can confidently sit down and play. This three-class series will meet October 2-16 (Thursdays only) from 9-11 a.m., and the cost of the series is $25. .

November 6: Home Security Class

NACC Police Chief Danny Miller will teach homeowners and renters how to assess vulnerabilities, select the right hardware, and implement emergency action plans. This class will meet from 9-11 a.m. and is free.

December 3: Holiday Wreath-Making Class

Courtney Willingham from Town Creek Field and Farm will lead this hands-on class, helping to create a holiday wreath crafted from live greenery. This class will meet from 1-3 p.m., and all supplies will be provided.
