Scarecrow Competition Celebrates “The Spirit of Mentone” at Fall Festival

The annual Mentone Fall Festival returns on Saturday, October 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic Moon Lake Campus, and this year introduces a new activity — the Scarecrow Competition!

This year’s theme, “The Spirit of Mentone,” invites participants to showcase what makes Mentone magical. Whether it’s through depictions of local artists, woodland creatures, mountain musicians, outdoor adventures, or colorful community characters, scarecrow entries should reflect the creativity, beauty, and personality of our mountain town.

The competition is open to all — individuals, families, community organizations, and school or church groups. Scarecrows will be displayed throughout the festival grounds, with ribbons and prizes awarded in categories like Most Creative, Best Use of Recycled Materials, and People’s Choice.

Bring your scarecrow to Moon Lake Campus on Friday, Oct. 17, between 1-5 p.m. There’s no entry fee, and sign-up forms will be available on-site or online in advance. Follow the Mentone Fall Festival page on Facebook for more details to come, including a link to a sign-up form.

Along with scarecrows, the festival offers kid-friendly activities, including hands-on arts and crafts and a special Fall Art Show featuring work from talented local 5th and 6th grade students.

Join us for Mentone’s biggest event of the year — a day of live music, art vendors, food trucks, and family fun.
