Songwriters Round, First Friday, Summer Social, and Art Class

The heat of summer is building, and so are the activities at the Chuck Sennett Center for the Arts. We kick the month with The French Family Band performing their second show of the weekend on Sunday, June 1, from 3-5 p.m. There were a few tickets left at press time. See contact information at the bottom of the article for more details.

Come hear featured artist Karen Newsum on June 3.

On Tuesday, June 3, we’ll host the Music on the Mountain Songwriters Series from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Mentone singer-songwriter Craig Hendricks is the official host for the round. The event is free to the public. Karen Newsum from Huntsville will be joining us as featured artist. Karen is a singer/songwriter who enjoys writing songs from her life experiences as well as whimsical songs for children. Young or old, her audiences delight in her original lyrics and music. The Porch Pickers will be jamming at the Arts Center gallery on First Friday, June 6.

Join us and other businesses and organizations on Friday, June 6, for the townwide First Friday Art Night. We kick off at 2 p.m. with the Porch Pickers playing in the gallery, which will be open until 7 p.m. with snacks and refreshments to enjoy while you shop.

Our Summer Social will be Thursday, June 19, from 5:30-7 p.m. We invited everyone to join as we salute our wonderful customers, who have helped make the center a success. Snacks and refreshments will be available.

Bradley Wilson will teach a weekend workshop on eco-printing June 28-29.

We are thrilled to have visiting artist/instructor Bradley Wilson for another exciting weekend workshop on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29. Tuition is $195 and class is limited to 10 students. A $25 supply will be paid directly to the instructor.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Eco-printing is a natural dyeing technique that uses plants to create beautiful patterns on fabric or paper — perfect for a creative summer activity! In this workshop, we’ll gather organic materials, explore mordants and the heating process, and create our own eco-prints. Then, we’ll transform our prints into unique creative projects. Whether you’re a serious student eager to master this technique or simply looking for a fun, hands-on experience, this workshop welcomes all skill levels!

  Bradley Wilson was born in Chattanooga in 1970. He is a visual artist and author who creates paintings, drawings, and prints. He teaches studio art and art history part time at Lee University, Dalton State College, and conducts regular painting workshops at a variety of venues. He resides with his wife and a multitude of dogs and cats in Charleston, Tennessee.
