Trunk or Treat, Hot Rods, and a Spooky Movie

The Town of Valley Head will host our annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Children and their families can safely walk around the town square to get goodies from multiple local businesses, churches, and civic organizations. Come all decked out in your favorite Halloween costumes and join this free family event.

Our monthly Hot Rods in the Valley will also take place on that Saturday (October 25). Cars begin arriving about 3 p.m. and park all around the square to show off each of their unique details. Some of the car owners will also be handing out treats for the children. The Beasleys are kind enough to hold a collection drive of supplies and/or donations for the DeKalb County Animal Shelter during the Hot Rod event each month. Please stop by their tent and drop off blankets, old towels, dog and/or cat food, and any monetary donations you want to give. Our local restaurants, The Tiger’s Inn and The Side Street Deli, will also be open and serving delicious specials all evening long.

To round out the events on the 25th, our next Family Movie Night will be held that evening on the field in front of Valley Head Town Hall. We will feature the classic #1 Halloween family movie, Hocus Pocus. This classic 1993 film features Bette Midler, along with many other great actors, and is perfect for our town Halloween event. We continue to work with the mapping department in DeKalb County, as well as Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments (TARCOG) and our town attorney Jay Skinner, to update our zoning map for the Town of Valley Head. We hope to clarify several pressing zoning issues we are currently facing as well as plan for our future growth.

Our November council meeting will be held at The Side Street Deli at 74 Winston Street. They are gracious enough to host our meeting since we anticipate a larger than normal crowd for our swearing-in ceremony for myself as mayor and our town council for the next four years, consisting of: Easton Bailey, John Chambers, Nathan Owen, Lyndall Elkins, and Scott Pepper. Please join us for our regular meeting plus this ceremony and a reception following the meeting.

The Valley Head Volunteer Fire Department continues to grow. We are very fortunate to have young men willing to contribute to the safety of our community. With an average of 12-15 calls per month, we are always looking for volunteers. Valley Head holds its Town Council meeting on the first Monday of each month beginning at 6 p.m. The public is always welcome to attend.
