Valley Head Happenings – June 2024

May was a big month in our town! The 7th Annual Memories of Mayberry Festival, with Floyd the Barber (Alan Newsome), Deputy Barney Fife (Anthony Wood), and other beloved characters, drew nearly 1,000 folks to town. Whitney Tinker opened the festival by singing the national anthem. The main stage featured The Sharps, a Christian gospel group, and the band Stranded, a country rock band. Festival goers also enjoyed the music and dancing of the Square Dance Club on Commerce Avenue throughout the day.
More than 50 craft and retail vendors offered wares, such as wood crafts, jewelry, crocheted items, artisan soaps, barn quilts, porch signs, and much more.
The annual classic car Cruise-In was a big attraction. Car show winners were: Kendall Shankles (first place with his ’39 Chevy); Byron Bailey (second place with his ’55 Chevy); and Kenny Chamlee (third place with his ’40 Ford Deluxe).
Congratulations to our Pickle Contest winners: Patricia Flory (first place with her Blue Ribbon Dills); Sandy Roberts (second place with her Cinnamon Pickles); and Robin DeMonia (third place with her Robin’s Dill-Licious Dills). Thank you to all who submitted an entry, and special thanks to our esteemed judges, Jimmy Phillips, Todd Greeson, and Lamar Bray.
Pie Contest winners were: Nancy Stiefel (first place with her Blueberry Banana Cream Pie); Todd Greeson (second place for his Strawberry Delight Pie); and Chef Grady from the New Tiger’s Inn (third place for his Salted Caramel Peach Crumble Pie). Thank you to everyone who entered this year and to our fabulous judges, Charley Vest, Chief Brad Gregg, and Judge Bell.
Our Town Council meetings are the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m. The public is always welcome to attend.
I am so excited to share our news with you, and I’m proud to call Valley Head home. I hope you will come visit us soon.
