Work on Our Zoning Map, Plus a New Eatery and Movie Nights

We are also pleased to announce that the town has now closed on the former Rib Shack building and we are thrilled to see what new business will soon be opening in its current location.

Despite rainy, windy weather, the Memories of Mayberry Festival enjoyed a great turnout.

Our first Family Movie Night of 2025 will be Saturday, June 7, on the field in front of Town Hall beginning at 7 p.m. Bring your blankets and/or lawn chairs and come join us to watch our featured film, “Moana 2.” This Disney classic is sure to be a hit with young and old alike. We will have free water and children’s juice boxes and hope to have a popcorn stand. Join us for a wonderful free family adventure. We cannot wait to try out the new movie screen and equipment the town recently purchased. We hope to hold a second movie night in the fall for all to enjoy.

Our 8th Annual Memories of Mayberry Festival was a success, despite the rainy weather. We had a good crowd, and everyone appeared to have so much fun. The band Stranded provided great country-rock music all day, and several food vendors kept everyone well fed. The children definitely had a blast splashing in the puddles and running all over town. I am so very thankful that we live in such a wonderful small community where we feel safe to let our children run free. We had multiple pie entries, and this year’s winner of the coveted blue ribbon was Todd Greeson, with his famous strawberry cheesecake. Second place went to Payne Stevenson for his fabulous smoked apple pie, and third place went to Jessica Harper Brown for her delicious chocolate pie. Darryl Cust won first place in the Dill Pickle Contest. Thank you to everyone for entering.

Festival visitors love to interact with characters from a past era, brought back to life every year for the Mayberry festival.

Valley Head is currently working with the planning commission and zoning board to update our master plan and zoning map, which have not been updated in over 40 years. We will be working with the mapping department in DeKalb County as well as Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments (TARCOG) and our town attorney, Jay Skinner. We hope to clarify several pressing zoning issues as well as plan for our future growth.

Valley Head holds our Town Council meeting the first Monday of each month, beginning at 6 p.m. The public is always welcome to attend.
