World’s Longest Yard Sale Returns Aug. 6–9
Who doesn’t dream of finding the deal of a lifetime on a set of antique dining chairs, that last rusted state license plate to complete the collection, a lovingly used barbecue grill, or even a set of sterling earrings to give as the perfect gift? Those dreams are about to become possible along a 690-mile stretch, as the World’s Longest Yard Sale returns Aug. 6–9. Held annually on the first Thursday through Sunday in August, the event stretches across six states, following U.S. Highway 127 from Addison, Michigan, to Gadsden, with the route continuing through Northeast Alabama on Lookout Mountain Parkway. The sale attracts hundreds of thousands of shoppers each year.
Mentone is one of the area’s favorite stops, with vendors lining Alabama Highway 117, filling parking lots and setting up on private property throughout town. The number and location of sales changes from year to year, making each visit a new adventure.
One of the community’s biggest attractions is St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, where the Episcopal Church Women host their annual fundraiser. Shoppers can browse everything from antiques and artwork to holiday decor, toys, household items, and unique treasures. Proceeds support local outreach ministries, including the children’s backpack program, food pantry Christmas items, and other community projects.

Other popular stops include the Log Cabin Village; the field across from Barnyard Antiques, which hosts vendors in front of the store; the parking lot across from Mentone Market; and Moon Lake Trading Co., where additional vendors set up outside. Moon Lake will also have live music on Saturday and Seabolt’s Tacos will be open. Visitors can also venture off the main route to shops such as Dave’s Antiques; Triple G Tradin’ Post; and The Possum Emporium on County Road 642, which plans to welcome tent vendors throughout the weekend and have barbecue meals for sale Friday and Saturday.
Along the yard sale route, friends and memories are made, as are great deals. Take note that folks will be crossing the roads on foot and slowing their cars if they spot that perfect patio set for sale, Stay alert, carry some cash just in case, and have a great yard sale weekend!
